KROW. / SELECTED WORK / BRAND TRANSFORMATION

One Mission
Changed
Everything.

Repositioning LMT from a broad defense contractor into a brand built around its mission-critical work.

01 / Introduction

The business had evolved. The brand needed to catch up.

LMT was a growing defense contractor with a broad portfolio of services, from facilities support to specialized military operations. Its business was approximately $8 million, but its market-facing identity did not yet express the significance of its most differentiated work.

A major ORSA contract win with JIEDDO marked a turning point, as LMT moved further into data, intelligence, analysis and operational support.

Brian Krow recognized the opportunity to align the company’s brand with the work that set it apart: supporting mission-critical operations, including work downrange in Afghanistan. As internal lead, he partnered with Black Coffee on an enterprise-wide brand transformation.

02 / Objective

Make the brand reflect the mission.

The assignment was larger than a new logo or website. LMT needed a coherent identity that expressed its specialized capabilities and could evolve with the business.

01

Define a differentiated position

Ground the brand in LMT’s actual mission-critical work.

02

Clarify complex capabilities

Communicate the company’s value to government and defense audiences.

03

Unify the experience

Connect identity, messaging, digital communications and physical spaces.

04

Support the next chapter

Establish a brand foundation aligned with an expanding organization.

03 / Strategy and Execution

Find the truth.
Build the brand around it.

The strategy began with what LMT was actually doing—not a marketing claim invented in isolation.

01 / POSITIONING

Identify the mission-critical story

Brian identified LMT’s specialized operational support as its defining story. The “Mission Critical” position reflected work that continued during government shutdowns, making the idea an operational reality rather than an empty tagline.

02 / LEADERSHIP

Lead an enterprise-wide transformation

Brian served as the internal lead, partnering with Black Coffee on brand development. Together, the work aligned positioning, messaging and identity around the company’s evolving defense and intelligence capabilities.

03 / BRAND SYSTEM

Carry the story across every touchpoint

The transformation extended through the website, digital assets, marketing collateral, corporate communications, visual identity and physical office environments, creating a consistent expression of the brand.

04 / STORYTELLING

Make complex work understandable

ORSA communications, including a documentary-style video concept focused on Afghanistan, translated technical and analytical capabilities into a story stakeholders could understand.

05 / BUSINESS ALIGNMENT

Build for the organization LMT was becoming

As the business expanded, the brand system gave LMT a clearer way to express its specialized capabilities. The identity reflected the company’s direction rather than the broad general-contractor profile of its earlier years.

THE IDEA

Mission Critical was more than a line.

LMT’s most compelling story was already visible in the work its people performed. The transformation made that truth the organizing idea for the company’s brand, communications and experience.

From operational storytelling to branded environments, the same strategic position connected what LMT did with how the organization presented itself.

04 / Results and Impact

A brand aligned with a growing business.

The transformation established a differentiated position and a more consistent way to communicate LMT’s evolving capabilities.

Clearer positioning

Mission-critical work became the central expression of LMT’s identity and specialized operational capabilities.

Enterprise-wide consistency

Messaging, visual identity, digital assets, collateral, communications and office environments reinforced the same story.

More accessible storytelling

ORSA-focused communications helped make complex analytical and operational services easier to understand.

~$8M → ~$100M

Growth during Brian’s tenure

LMT grew from approximately $8 million in revenue to approaching $100 million during Brian’s tenure.

The brand transformation supported and reflected the company’s evolution; this revenue growth is not attributed to branding alone.

05 / Conclusion

The strongest brand story was already there.

LMT’s transformation began by recognizing what the company had become. Brian connected that insight to positioning, identity, communications and environments, building a unified brand around the organization’s mission-critical work.

For KROW., the project demonstrates brand leadership grounded in business understanding: identify what makes an organization different, then make that distinction clear across every experience.
